Worlds of Education Research Wiki
Worlds of Education (WE) is a research initiative housed in the College of Education at the University of South Florida. WE investigates the characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and potentials of virtual worlds as venues for teaching and learning in order to understand the nature of these environments and teach others how to produce pedagogically sound, engaging, instructional content embedded in persistent virtual world environments.
WE's research wiki provides reviews of research articles reviews, links to educational research, and other resources related to virtual worlds.

Second Life seems to have petered out and faded from view. I never see ANY media coverage anymore. I know I gave up because the lag time never improved, the sound rarely worked without drop out, and any session generated too much frustration. As far as SL's potential as an online teaching space, my RL students were never even remotely interested, and I imagine that–contrary to my original expectations–distance learning students wouldn't deal well with all the sound glitches and lag time either. I wonder if anyone has done a post mortem on this superstar virtual world that seems to have self-destructed after its initial spectacular success.
